Minimally Invasive Bypass Surgery
Minimally Invasive Bypass surgery is surgeries that give the surgeon an opportunity to help cure and clear clogged arteries with minimal invasive effect to the patient. In other words the surgery is performed in a less traumatic way which includes making a small incersion in the heart while avoiding the usage of the heart-lung machine. The surgery is performed for the same symptoms of a Coronary Heart Disease.
The Minimally Invasive Bypass surgery cannot be performed on every patient, but it is done on selected individuals depending on the number of blocked arteries and the severity. It is normally done on patients with only 1 or 2 bypass grafts developed on the front of the heart. These can be accessed through small incersions making it easy for the patient to recover sooner than a traditional coronary heart surgery. The surgery is done on a beating heart with an incersion of 3 to 5 inches made between the ribs or at different places of the heart.
Surgery on a beating heart is the biggest challenge for the surgeon making the study of the heart limited to only one portion. The surgeon uses a stabilization system when the surgery is undertaken on a beating heart. In this heart surgery the breastbone is not cut and thus surgery is performed through the small incersion itself.

The surgery is less traumatic for the patient and also results in a quick recovery. The results in a coronary bypass surgery and a Minimal Invasive Bypass surgery are similar in the sense, they both restore blood flow to the heart and deliver nutrients and oxygen, making the heart function normally. Patients who get themselves operated with a minimally bypass surgery return to their regular routine and activities within two weeks.
The small incersion provides limited access for the surgeon to perform surgery making surgery possible for blocked arteries that develop only on one portion of the arteries mainly the front area of the heart. In instances of multiple-clogs, Minimally Invasive Bypass surgery is not possible and is most often used along with other surgeries like balloon angioplasty.
The different advantages of minimally invasive bypass surgery are a short period of stay for the patient in the hospital, it helps you recover soon, bleeding is less and there is less risk of any infections from occurring. Another very vital advantage is the cost of the surgery. The Minimally Invasive surgery costs almost 25 % less than the traditional heart surgery. Small incersion in the heart results in less exposure to the outside environment helping the patient from developing any infections, the small incersion also helps in minimal loss of blood.
In cases of the conventional heart surgery, the use of the heart lung machine in itself can at times damage a blood cell, causing more loss of blood. The surgery helps in fewer complications and less risk of any cognitive decline in the patient. However the disadvantage of the surgery is due to the small incersion, making performing surgery very difficult and thus this surgery is not always opted for by patients and rather a traditional coronary bypass surgery is a more common choice.
